E-9th > Key of A > 7th Fret > 9-8-7 strings = A – B – C# = two whole steps.
E-9th > Key of A > 5th Fret > 8-7-6 strings = A – B – C# = two whole steps.
Based on Rick's idea, here are some scale patterns on E-9th strings 9-8-7:
First Diagram: AM7 scale > picked in a 4 Note Forward Pattern > Ascending up the fretboard
Second Diagram: AM7 scale > picked in a 3 Note Forward Pattern > Ascending up the fretboard
Play over AM7 Chord
(E-9th Tuning - No Pedals - No Knee Levers)
First Diagram: Em7 Scale > picked in a 4 Note Forward Pattern > Ascending up the fretboard
Second Diagram: Em7 Scale > picked in a 3 Note Forward Pattern > Ascending up the fretboard
Play over A7 Chord
(E-9th Tuning - No Pedals - No Knee Levers)
Here are links diagramming E-9th Scales on strings 8-7-6:

Last week I posted some E9th Scale Patterns on strings 9-8-7 to be played over AM7 & A7 chords in the key of A.
Here are some E9th Scale Patterns to be played over a D7 and E7 chords on strings 9-8-7.
If we play an Am7 scale over a D Chord we get the sound of a D7 Chord.
First Diagram: Am7 scale > picked in a 4 Note Forward Pattern > Ascending up the fretboard.
Second Diagram: Am7 scale > picked in a 3 Note Forward Pattern > Ascending up the fretboard.
Play over D7 Chord:
(E-9th Tuning - No Pedals - No Knee Levers)
You can start a scale run on any note of the scale - you don’t necessarily have to start on the root of the scale. The only rule is that it sounds good. Here are the notes of an Am7 scale starting on the 2nd fret running through the 5th fret (the home fret of A) up to the 15th fret. Play over a D7 Chord.
First Diagram: Notes of an Am7 scale > picked in a 4 Note Forward Pattern > Ascending up the fretboard.
Second Diagram: Notes of an Am7 scale > picked in a 4 Note Reverse Pattern > Descending down the fretboard.
Play over a D7 Chord:
(E-9th Tuning - No Pedals - No Knee Levers)
Here is an Am7 Scale picked in a 3 Note Scale Pattern:
First Diagram: Notes of an Am7 scale > picked in a 3 Note Forward Pattern > Ascending up the fretboard.
Second Diagram: Notes of an Am7 scale > picked in a 3 Note Reverse Pattern > Descending down the fretboard.
Play over a D7 Chord:
(E-9th Tuning - No Pedals - No Knee Levers)
If we move these patterns up 2 frets we will be playing the notes of a Bm7 scale - which works over an E7 Chord. We now can play over I-IV7-V7 in the Key of A. Try these patterns over a “Working Man Blues” type progression.
