This tab uses a lot of pedals and knee levers and brings out the "pedal" steel sound. Note how the 1st string whole tone raise makes a nice C Maj7th when used at the 3rd fret with pedals A and B. Raising the 2nd string 1/2 tone makes a nice unison sound with the 4th string.

This thing is really easy to play so don't be put off by all the lines on the tab sheet. In fact, it can be played without any blocking and still sound pretty cool.

Here's an example of using a diminished chord as part of a lick where the chords structure doesn't use the diminished. The first row of tab is the same as the audio and the second row of tab is an alternate version. You will hear lot of little variations of this riff, and some use a little bit of timing variation to get a different sound and feel.

Note that pushing pedals 5 and 6 together are often used to get a diminished chord on C6. They also lower strings 5 and 6 a half tone. If you activate these pedals and move the bar up one fret, string 4 becomes a dominant 7th note and you get a 3 note dominant 7th chord on strings 4,5 and 6. This has the same effect as just raising string 4 a half tone with the bar at the root position.

Here's a slow song that requires you to play fast! Try it and you'll see what I mean. Even though the tempo is slow, there is a lot of quick bar moves and some fast intervals between certain strings. I believe that learning some fast picking will help you play the slow songs a lot smoother.

I use this a lot for song endings. It's a great way to get a full sounding Maj 7th chord and another good argument for lowering the 9th string 1/2 tone.

If you're willing to pick some strings out of order, you can play the exact same major 7th at fret 3 on strings 8,5,2 and 3.

I use both pick blocking, palm blocking and pulling the bar back to mute the strings for these so I've noted where each technique was used.

The 1st riff moves right along but is a cinch to play if you've got pick blocking down. Focus on getting your bar to quickly move exactly one fret at a time.

The 2nd riff is a neat use of the E to F knee lever.

The 3rf riff is a Buck Owens / Don Rich style guitar riff and needs only the B pedal to play the whole thing. This also shows a real neat pocket of notes at the 1st fret.

The 4th riff uses some stuff I heard Tom Brumley play and ends with a 3rd pedal riff that a local Wheeling player named Joe Tippe used a lot to good effect.

The last riff is played on the C6th neck and it really doesn't matter if your top string is a G or a D. Wally Murphy is the 1st picker I ever heard play this and he was FAST FAST FAST with it!

a brief use of the Franklin pedal, some neat use of the G# knee lever for other than unison sounds and a C6th style ending. The transition from D to G riff works great if the whole band follows you!
