John Hughey nous a quitté

John Hughey est décédé hier soir.

John était non seulement un grand musicien, mais une personne très sympathique. Il va nous manquer. C'est le moins que l'on puisse dire!

Ma femme, Debra, et moi avons eu l'occasion à maintes reprises de bavarder avec lui.

La nouvelle de son décès nous a brisé le coeur!

j'ai un DVD LIVE des TIME JUMPERS (western Swing) enregistré en MAI 2006 à Nashville au Station Inn ... John Hughey y est royal sur le C6..
2 heures de pur bonheur ce DVD.. ( ref : Crosswind- TTJ - 1)

comme dit l'ami Fred, dur début de semaine... "Papa" John comme l'appelait ses potes musicos avait un bon sourire et un son des plus moelleux " Smooth as Buttermilk" (ref à la dernière revue Pedal Steel US)

On s'était regardé un extrait du DVD chez Bernard il y a 2 semaines.
Hier soir, steelguitar radio a diffusé un hommage à M.Hughey...

Bob TAILLEFER a bien connu John HUGHEY et ce dernier a donné un sérieux coup de pouce aux steelers canadiens en les recommandant
à Scotty... ce geste a eu pour effet de leur ouvrir la porte des conventions steel US, Merci pour votre générosité, MONSIEUR John !

Au cours des dernières années, j'ai effectivement connu John.

En janvier 2007, j'ai même eu l'incroyable honneur de ''jammer'' avec John, Joe Wright, Chet Gibson et Ollie Strong à Lakeland en Floride.

Ma femme, Debra, et moi prenions souvent un café avec John et sa femme, Jean, après les spectacles.

Il pouvait épater la galerie avec son incroyable jeu à la steel et pouvait également toucher les gens avec sa grande gentillesse.

J'ai rencontré John une première fois en 1982.

À l'époque, j'accompagnais Terry Carisse (www.terrycarisse.com) à la steel et à la banjo 5 cordes.

Nous faisions le spectacle d'ouverture de Conway Twitty.

Avant le premier concert de la tournée, j'étais en train d'accorder ma steel lorsque John s'est approché et a dit ''Hey man, blow me away''.

Il me tendit la main avec le sourire qu'on lui connaît.

Ensuite, je me suis présenté et nous avons passé les trois prochains jours à discuter de tout et de rien.

Trois jours mémorables!

Quoique je l'aie vu accompagner Vince Gill, je ne lui ai parlé que 18 ans plus tard à St Louis.

Quelques mois auparavant, je lui avais envoyé mon CD Jazz, Nouveau Steel et le CD Northern Steel I mettant en vedette 17 steelers canadiens.

Il m'avait envoyé une lettre élogieuse. Il aimait beaucoup les steelers canadiens.

Cette lettre m'a valu son encouragement et une invitation chez Scotty's avec la Canadian Connection en 2001.

Tout cela a mené à d'autres ''Steel Guitar Shows'' aux États-Unis.

Je lui envoyais toujours mes nouveaux CDs. Quelques semaines plus tard, mon envoi était toujours suivi d'une belle lettre écrite à la main ou d'un courriel élogieux.

Dans ce bas monde, on ne peut demander mieux.

Le monde a perdu un grand musicien et un grand homme!

J'ai perdu un ami!

Vince Gill was on the Opry friday dec.1 and did Look At Us twice on the show( the first one at 2:08:12 and the second one at 04:37:18 ). Tommy White played the steel parts and he did it with so much emotion you could feel it thru the radio.

This is what TW wrote about his performance:
Playing with Vince tonight was one of the most difficult things I've ever done emotionally and musically. It will also stand out as the most treasured performance of my tenure at the Grand Ole Opry. A most spiritual musical event, as the song Vince wrote for John was so beautiful and touched everyone.
No one can fill the large footprint John put on Vince Gill recordings and performances.
I have thought of the day of our beloved John Hughey passing everyday since his untimely parting. I cannot imagine the anguish, emptyness and sadness his loyal, devoted and beautiful wife must be coping with. Jean Hughey is a princess and is worthy of everything good.
John left us much too soon, as John had become the definitive finest as a father, husband, friend, neighbor, world class identifiable musician and pedal steel guitarist, playing better than ever with so much to offer. The best way to leave is on top with no foul. John did just that. My family and I will miss him for the rest of our lifes and we shall never forget the positive, loving impression John made on us.
